Dear Candidate ,
I am writing to you today concerning the healthcare system in our country. The United States healthcare system, as you must know is in major need of reform. Healthcare needs to be more affordable, accessible, and organized, especially now more than ever due to the ongoing pandemic. These things can be accomplished in a universal single-payer, tax-funded healthcare system. The U.S is the number one country paying the most for healthcare. In 2018 alone, according to the Peter G. Peterson Foundation, America spent $3.6 trillion dollars on healthcare while the U.K, a nation with a universal healthcare plan only spent  258.7 billion. Since the start of the pandemic over 50 million people have filed for unemployment and 50% of the country’s population relies on employment-based health insurance. According to eHealthInsurance, individual plans can cost up to $321 per month and family plans can come up to $833. This is too much money to expect from average Americans, especially the unemployed. If we were to enact a Medicare for All policy, then healthcare would be government-funded, thus causing lower-income families to have access to the healthcare they need. To say the current American Healthcare System is broken would be a complete and total understatement. Patients are not able to receive quality care or any in some situations due to the high costs, inaccessibility, and inefficiency of our healthcare system. Healthcare is a human right and everyone in the U.S should be treated with the care they need and deserve.  To allow millions of people to live without healthcare because of mere socioeconomic or legal status would be morally unjust. By implementing a universal healthcare program, everyone would be able to access healthcare which is how it should be. I understand that your party is fully about helping Americans and supporting them, and I have full confidence you will do so by enacting this policy. Thank You.
Regards, United States Secretary of Health and Human Services
